Released in 1981, My Life In The Bush Of Ghosts saw David Byrne and Brian Eno push studio experimentation into radical new territory. Built from layered rhythms, found voices and tape manipulation, the album sampled radio broadcasts, evangelists and field recordings long before sampling became common practice in electronic music.
Rather than using vocals traditionally, Byrne and Eno treated them as raw material, weaving them through polyrhythmic grooves inspired by African and Middle Eastern music. The result was a visionary record that anticipated sampling culture, influencing generations of producers across electronic, hip-hop and experimental music.
