On Saturday October 11, 1980, The Old Waldorf in San Francisco hosted the exclusive Northern California appearance of Sun Ra and his Omniverse Arkestra. The performance brought cosmic jazz theatrics to 444 Battery Street. Sun Ra’s fusion of big band swing, free improvisation and Afrofuturist philosophy transformed venues into interstellar ceremonies, and this one-night engagement captured that expansive vision in full.
