Pale Saints
The original Pale Saints lineup of Ian Masters (vocals/bass), Graeme Naysmith (guitar), and Chris Cooper (drums) from their late 80s to early 90s period, when the Leeds band were expanding the outer edges of the shoegaze spectrum.
Signed to 4AD, they blended Ian Masters’ melodic bass lines with swirling guitar atmospherics, with albums such as The Comforts of Madness and In Ribbons balancing noise and fragility with precision. Often overlooked beside their contemporaries, Pale Saints delivered some of the era’s most intricately layered work. Gotta say - The Comforts of Madness is my favourite shoegaze album of all time.
