On Saturday December 4, 1982, A Certain Ratio performed at Club Lingerie, 6507 Sunset Blvd, Los Angeles, in support of their new 12-inch single on Factory/Mango U.S.A., a division of Island Records.
By this point, the Manchester group had fused post-punk austerity with funk and Latin-leaning rhythms, carving out a dance-floor intelligence that set them apart from their contemporaries. The Sunset Strip setting provided a sharp contrast to their industrial roots.
