Sleeping Bag Records - the classic independent American label founded in 1981 by Arthur Russell and entrepreneur Will Socolov in New York City. Across the 1980s, it became known for releasing club, hip-hop, and dance music, putting out early work from artists who would go on to wider recognition.
The label also operated the sub-label Fresh Records and built a reputation for tapping into emerging scenes at a time when New York’s nightlife and underground culture were rapidly evolving.
