CSN/Crosby Stills & Nash
Crosby, Stills & Nash released their debut album in 1969, a record assembled from three musicians who had each already left successful bands. Crosby from the Byrds, Stills from Buffalo Springfield, Nash from the Hollies, and whose voices together produced something that none of them could have arrived at separately.
The harmonies were the point, built close and stacked with a precision that disguised how much tension existed beneath them. This design pulls from the original album artwork and promotional materials and concert ticket stubs of that period, the era when the three of them were still figuring out whether the thing they'd made together was worth the difficulty of maintaining it.
