Monsoon - Ever So Lonely
Monsoon formed in London in 1981 around Sheila Chandra, who was sixteen when "Ever So Lonely" was recorded.
The single reached number 12 in the UK charts in 1982, one of the first top twenty hits to incorporate Indian classical music as a structural element rather than surface ornamentation.
Chandra's vocals drew on classical training, and Steve Coe's production placed that within a pop arrangement without flattening it. She subsequently pursued a solo career moving progressively further into the intersection of Indian classical and Western vocal traditions.
The single was released on Mobile Suit Corporation, an independent label established specifically to put out the record.
