Rupa - Disco Jazz

$24.10 SGD

Disco Jazz was recorded in Calcutta in 1982 and pressed on HMV India, at the time one of the subcontinent's primary distributors of popular music. Rupa Biswas had a background in Indian classical training, and the album occupies a specific intersection of local studio production conventions and the imported rhythmic language of late-period disco.

It remained outside collector awareness for close to three decades before a reissue in the early 2010s brought it to the global funk and rare groove circuit.

That renewed attention also prompted wider interest in Indian disco and Bollywood-adjacent pop from the same era.
