Miki Matsubara was one of the defining voices of late-70s Japanese pop. She debuted in 1979 and became best known for Mayonaka no Door, a smooth, late-night track closely associated with the city pop sound.
Years after stepping away from music following a cancer diagnosis that ended her life at only 44 years of age, her work found a new global audience through the renewed interest in city pop.
