Patches Nightclub

Upstairs at 33 Oxford Street, Patches became one of the defining gay venues of Sydney’s nightlife after opening in 1976. Known for its late-night dancefloor and open music policy, the club reflected a period where Disco, New Wave, and leftfield club records blended freely, particularly during the early 1980s as crowds moved across Oxford Street after hours.

The venue also became closely associated with its drag performances, providing an early platform for artists who would later shape Sydney’s drag scene. In the early 1990s, Patches transitioned into DCM.
