Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young assembled from three dissolved groups: The Byrds, Buffalo Springfield, and The Hollies. Their 1970 Déjà Vu, recorded at Wally Heider's Studio in San Francisco, reached number one on the Billboard chart and sold over eight million copies in the US.
Neil Young had joined the trio after their Atlantic debut was already recorded. The Gray Chapel booking, with student ID pricing and tickets through the MUB, places this on a university circuit consistent with their 1970 tour, which moved between arenas and campus venues.
